  • On May 2nd, 2024, Bússola Tech and the Organization of American States (OAS) co-hosted a significant event titled "Technology in Parliaments: Improving the Quality of the Lawmaking Process." The event brought together distinguished guests from the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, the Library of Congress and the Private Sector to explore the intersection of technology and parliamentary procedures, with a special focus on innovations that enhance transparency, efficiency, and responsiveness in legislative drafting.

     

     

    A highlight of the conference was the recognition ceremony honouring the U.S. House of Representatives for its pioneering efforts in legislative technology, particularly the development and implementation of the Comparative Print Suite. This innovative drafting system has revolutionised the way legislative changes are tracked and understood, contributing to a more transparent and efficient lawmaking process.

     

     

    Mr. Kevin McCumber, the Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives, and Mr. Wade Ballou, the Legislative Counsel of the U.S. House of Representatives, were commended for their exceptional leadership and contributions to the modernisation of the House. Special recognition was also presented to Ms. Kirsten Gullickson. Their commitment to developing the Comparative Print Suite has set a new standard for legislative drafting systems, inspiring further advancements in the field.

     

     

    The conference also featured a panel discussion about the impact and the history of the Comparative Print Suite, further exploring the potential of technology to enhance the quality of the lawmaking process. Mr. Luís Kimaid, the Executive-Director from Bússola Tech served as the moderator to the panel, that welcomed distinguished participants: Ms. Kirsten Gullickson, the Director of Systems Analysis and Quality Assurance at Office of the Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives, Mr. Mark Stodder, President at Xcential Legislative Technologies, and Mr. Wade Ballou, the Legislative Counsel at the U.S. House of Representatives, engaged in a thought-provoking conversation.
