Bússola Tech successfully convened the third of a series of high-level meetings on August 24th, 2023, shedding light on the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in parliamentary processes and governance, between the Cámara de Diputados of Chile and the Hellenic Parliament.

Esteemed representatives, Mr. Miguel Landeros, the Secretary General of the Cámara de Diputados of Chile, Mr. Hernan Figueroa, the IT Director of the Cámara de Diputados of Chile, and Mr. Fotios Fitsilis, Director of Research from the Hellenic Parliament, engaged in a comprehensive dialogue exploring the challenges and opportunities presented by AI integration in parliamentary systems, under the moderation of Mr. Luís Kimaid from Bússola Tech. The meeting also had the honour to welcome colleagues from the Cámara de Diputados of Chile, Mr. Esteban Sanchez and Mr. Dieter Laage.

Mr. Landeros emphasised the continual improvement of AI models and their implications for parliamentary processes. He also stressed the importance of strategic, agile planning for effective AI integration.

Dr. Fitsilis delved deep into the implications of emerging technologies in the modern parliamentary workspace. He emphasised the transformative nature of these tools in fostering collaboration and streamlining processes. At the same time, he stressed the importance of ensuring that these tools do not lead to isolation. Dr. Fitsilis also emphasised the need for strategic, agile planning when implementing these technologies. He noted that while different parliaments might have varied strategic objectives globally, the integration of AI should be tailored to meet these unique goals.

Mr. Figueroa accentuated the role of AI tools in enhancing legislative processes. He highlighted the significance of technology in improving work dynamics and collaboration, while also cautioning against its over-reliance.

The discussion underscored the complexities of AI implementation in parliamentary contexts, highlighting challenges, potentials, and the importance of maintaining a balanced approach.

Concluding the meeting, the representatives acknowledged the significance of such inter-parliamentary dialogues, emphasising their role in facilitating knowledge exchange, best practices sharing, and collaborative brainstorming.
